They can tell you who moved the remote, when, and why. The worksheet due tomorrow? No leads. The Case Board is a detective homework board for kids that pins every assignment in plain sight.
Sound Familiar?
The backpack black hole swallowed the permission slip. Again.
“I didn’t know it was due.” (It was in the class app. Behind three taps.)
They sat down for homework and started… cleaning their desk.
Kids who love mysteries are great at noticing. They’re not great at remembering what lives inside a closed laptop. So this board takes the case out of their head and puts it on the wall.
How The Board Works
📌 OPEN CASES: one card for everything due in the next 7 days, every item to bring, every question to ask.
📌 TODAY’S CASES: max 3. Choose once, then stop deciding.
📌 ON THE CASE: only 1. Good detectives work one case at a time. Pulled away for dinner? The card’s NEXT STEP line shows where to pick back up.
📌 CLOSED: finished cards stay up all week as their track record.
NEED BACKUP: stuck? Park the card here and write who can help.
BIG CASE cards: a project broken into up to 6 steps. The first unchecked step goes ON THE CASE.
What’s Inside
Setup page (about 15 minutes), including where the to-do list hides in common class sites
4 column pages that tape in a row
10 cut-out case cards: WHAT, DUE, SIZE, NEXT STEP, turned in
4 BIG CASE project cards
Routine poster: a 2 to 5 minute daily check plus the Friday count of CLOSED cases
A page for the adult helping, with a plan for stepping back over 8 weeks
Plus a single 11×17 board sheet to print at a copy shop
Why It Works
Remembering to do something later is hard for a lot of kids, especially when the reminder is hidden in a backpack or an app. A visible board means less to hold in mind. A short list picked ahead of time removes the “what should I do?” stall. And a column of finished cards is concrete feedback they can count.
Designed with ADHD and easily distracted kids in mind: big columns, one card in progress, no apps, no logins, no points to track.
How It Arrives
2 PDFs: a 10-page US Letter file and a 1-page 11×17 board. Instant digital download: no physical item ships. Black-and-white friendly. You need paper, scissors and tape; sticky notes work too. Grades 5 to 9.
FAQ
Q: My kid hates planners. Why would this be different?
A: It isn’t a planner. It’s a case board on the wall: cards move, nothing to fill in daily.
Q: Who moves the cards?
A: Your kid. Your line becomes “What’s ON THE CASE?” instead of “Did you check your planner?”
Q: The cards keep getting lost.
A: Print the 11×17 sheet and use sticky notes, or slip pages into sheet protectors.
Q: Any crime imagery?
A: None. Just cases, leads and a lot of CLOSED cards.

Questions parents ask
What ages and grades is this for?
Ages 11 to 14 is the sweet spot (grades 5 to 9). The tone is grown-up, with no cartoon mascots, so a 13-year-old won’t feel babied.
Is it good for kids with ADHD?
It was designed with distractible kids and kids with ADHD in mind: one job per page, a short DO THIS line, short sessions, a clear next step and nothing that resets after a missed day. It is a study tool, not a treatment.
Does my kid have to love detective mystery things?
It helps. The whole system speaks the language of mystery books, puzzles, clues and solving cases. If that’s not your kid, the same system comes in 10 other worlds with matching page numbers.
Can I use it for homeschool or my classroom?
Yes. The license covers one household, or one teacher’s own students. Reprint it for every test this year.
